INSTITUTE TEAM PRESENTS AT PIONEER NETWORK ANNUAL
CONFERENCE
Full Day Pre-Conference Session Explored
Transformational Approaches to Admission, Team Development and Advocacy
Minneapolis,
MN - The Institute for Caregiver Education team
was selected to be among a small group of educators to present a pre-conference
special session on August 1st at the 7th Annual Pioneer Network Conference.
Selection for pre-conference participation is highly selective,
and further cements the Institute’s status as a nationally-recognized
provider of Culture Change advocacy and education.
The Pioneer Network began in 1997 with a small group of individuals who were
known for pioneering change in eldercare. These individuals began to meet informally
to work toward a common goal of transforming eldercare from a medical model
that focuses on diagnosis, to a social model that focuses on the individual.
This transformation became known as “Culture Change.” In 2000,
the group became an official 501(c)(3) not-for-profit advocacy organization.
Since that time, the Pioneer Network has hosted national conferences to inspire
individuals across the nursing home profession to embrace Culture Change as
a needed change in long term care.
This year the Pioneer Network hosted their 7th national conference in Minneapolis,
Minnesota. The Institute for Caregiver Education has maintained a presence
as an educator, sponsor and exhibitor at the last six national conferences.
This is the second year that the Institute has been invited to present a pre-conference
session.
This year’s Institute for Caregiver Education pre-conference session
was team-taught by Jim Kinsey, LPN and Senior Consultant and Director of Development,
and his colleague Myrna Eshleman, RN, BSN, MScN, Regional Educator and Program
Developer. Together, the duo presented “Moving In, Moving Up and Moving
On.” The session was designed to explore three key areas:
- Moving In explored the needs of elders as they move into
a new community. This interactive session explored interdisciplinary team
assessments, integrated charting and neighborhood initiatives that can support
elders during this time.
- Moving Up explored how team members are supported by human
resource policies and procedures that sustain empowerment, choice, respect
and relationships. Participants explored what is necessary to transform from
managing human resources to leading self-directed teams.
- Moving On participants explored the greatest wave of the
culture change movement — transforming the culture of aging. In this
dynamic and interactive session, participants explored how long-term care
may have lost its voice in advocacy, and more importantly, how we can get
it back and make a difference.
The Institute for Caregiver Education also exhibited at the conference. The
team offered a variety of resources for Culture Change professionals to preview
and to purchase.
The
Institute for Caregiver Education is a nationally-recognized
leader in Culture Change education. For more than 15 years the organization
has provided quality
caregiver education to nursing homes from California to Maine.
Over the last five years the IfCE team has educated hundreds of long-term
care professionals
on a myriad of Culture Change topics at such national conferences
as ASA, NADONA, AAHSA, AHCA, ACHCA, The Pioneer Network, the VA Summit and
numerous state associations.
The Institute for Caregiver Education is currently a leading Culture Change
educator for a number of state QIO organizations as they work with the 8th
Scope of Work and CMS.
