Messiah Village Signs Three-Year Contract with the Institute
Faith-Based Organization Embraces a Move from a Medical Model to a Social
Model of Care
Messiah Village, a continuing care retirement community with a mission
based in Christ-like love, has chosen the Institute for Caregiver Education
to work with them in their journey to transform their services
from a medical model of care to a social model. The announcement was made
at the Institute’s offices in Chambersburg, PA on Monday.
Known in the eldercare industry as “Cultural Transformation” or “Culture
Change,” this shift from a clinically-focused model to an individual-focused
model has been gaining the attention of eldercare consumers since the mind-nineties.
The Institute for Caregiver Education is one of the nation’s premier
providers of Cultural Transformation consultation.
We are tremendously enthusiastic about this partnership,” said
Institute Director of Corporate Development and Product Services Jim Kinsey. “The
team at Messiah Village has demonstrated a true commitment to moving towards
a social model of care, and their mission and values are a perfect match
for the work that the Institute is currently doing nationwide.”
The three-year contract with the Institute will provide Messiah Village
with the expertise and the tools necessary to move in a direction of individualized
care. Major project initiatives will include Cultural Transformation consultation,
and the development of career ladders for staff. The Institute for Caregiver
Education provides these services to a number of eldercare providers throughout
the country.
“We believe that we are on a journey; inward, outward and
together,” said Gary Johnson, a member of Messiah Village’s
Executive Team. “We are looking to increase our abilities
to be person-centered and community minded while decreasing our dependence
on institutions.”
Messiah Village offers a broad-spectrum of quality services for older adults,
including residential living, assisted living, adult day care and community
services. The organization’s mission is deeply-rooted in a “ministry
that responsibly enhances the lives of older adults with Christ-like love.” The
Village serves the needs of more than 750 residents and has been doing so
for more than a century.
