Nursing Assistants Receive a Dose of Their Own Medicine
Chambersburg, PA -- June 25, 2003 -- On Tuesday, June 17, more than 50 area nursing assistants and personal care aides attended the Nursing Assistant Day Celebration at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and were pampered to show they are appreciated.
The program sponsored by the Institute for Caregiver Education provided a day-long seminar and luncheon program to commemorate National Nursing Assistants' Week, June 12-19, 2003.

Myrna Eshleman RN, regional trainer and curriculum developer for the Institute, spoke on the topic, "The Great American Caregiver." During the afternoon, local health and beauty professionals shared stress-relieving techniques and offered a variety of relaxing and pampering activities. Empire Beauty School students gave manicures, Mary Kay representatives Penny Poorman, April Turner and Christy Yohe gave facials and hand care tips as well as benefits on the positive effects of aromatherapy. Donna Myers of Curves for Women offered yoga & relaxation techniques, and various masseuses* offered chair massages (*Faith Carbaugh of A Touch of Faith, Jill Snyder with A World of Touch, and Katrina Myers).
"Frontline caregivers are the hearts and hands of eldercare," says Annette Sanders RN and the Institute's Vice President. "Their constant concern is the well being of the residents in their care, and meeting their complex and diverse needs. This is our way of saying thank you for all they do all year long."
Area nursing centers, assisted living care centers, and personal care homes brought their new and seasoned staff from their centers just to let them know that they are appreciated for all the hard work they do each and every day.
Many prizes donated by local businesses were awarded in celebration of the day and number of years service. We thank all who participated this year: Applebees, Cracker Barrel, Dodies, Essis & Sons, Fusting Florist, Main Street Deli, Marriott Fairfield Inn, Pizza Hut, Plasterers, Purdy Creek Crafts, Route 5, Totem Pole Playhouse, and Wrap It Up!
