Our Team
The Institute Team offers a wide array of professional expertise. Team
members hail from a variety of eldercare settings and backgrounds, from
gerontology to social work, and nursing home administration to nursing
and survey management, to marketing and internet technology.
Our team members hold the highest credentials in their respective fields
and are dedicated to improving the quality of life of residents through
professional development and education. Institute team members volunteer
their time to serve on local, regional and national committees to ensure
the voice of long term care workers is heard.
Members of the Institute Team
Susan Crane — is an Associate
Consultant and Educator based in Florida. Susan is a licensed Nursing
Home Administrator
and holds a bachelor’s
degree in social work. In her position she assists Institute clients
in improving the quality of life and quality of care for their residents
and team members through person-centered care education and training.
Susan brings to the Institute team over 25 years of experience as a long
term care and assisted living administrator; educator, consultant and
social worker. Prior to joining the Institute she worked with the Florida
QIO as a project coordinator, working specifically to educate providers
in the areas of leadership, Culture Change, team building and empowerment.
Throughout her career Susan has held a number of prestigious committee
positions, including for such organizations as the Maine White House
Conference on Aging, the American Health Care Association and the Maine
Healthcare Association.
Myrna Eshleman — Myrna Eshleman
is the Institute’s Regional Educator and Program Developer, and
brings more than twenty years of eldercare experience to her position.
In addition to teaching and writing educational material for caregivers
of the elderly, she serves as consultant to nursing homes on clinical
practice and education issues. Ms. Eshleman is also working on curriculum
development for an innovative LPN education program integrating traditional
classroom and e-based learning. She also delivers onsite instruction
and consultation to skilled nursing and assisted living clients, covering
a broad range of training that includes directed in-services, enhanced
clinical practice and cultural transformation topics. When not in the
field with clients, she is engaged in curriculum development projects,
including authoring and piloting a new training program for personal
care attendants in response to regulatory changes governing personal
care homes in the state of Pennsylvania. Ms. Eshleman is an RN and received
her BSN and MScN from The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Prior to joining
the Institute, she held positions as both Staff Development Coordinator
and as a Director of Nursing.
Amy Fager— joined the Institute
team in 2006 as an Associate Consultant and Educator. In this role she
provides education and training on a wide variety of topics designed
to enrich the daily lives of long-term care, skilled nursing and assisted
living residents and their caregivers. Although Ms. Fager’s work
with the Institute is focused on clients in the tri-state area of Pennsylvania,
Virginia and Maryland, she also provides support for national Institute
training events. An accomplished public speaker, Ms Fager brings ten
years of experience in eldercare census-building and marketing to the
Institute team. A resident of Chambersburg, she is active in several
community organizations, including; the Greater Chambersburg Chamber
of Commerce, the Greater Chambersburg Chamber Foundation, and the Leadership
Franklin County Alumni Committee, among others. Ms. Fager is a Pennsylvania
Licensed Personal Care Home Administrator and holds a bachelor’s
degree in Communication from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
Jim Kinsey — is a Senior Consultant
and Director of Development. In this role he helps to oversee the development
and delivery of educational training modules for long term care professionals
and provides ongoing consultation to providers engaged in the Culture
Change journey. In addition to prolific industry conference engagements,
he is also engaged in developing one- and two-day conference opportunities
delivered entirely by the Institute team. A Licensed Practical Nurse
specializing in long term care with experience in acute care and senior
behavioral health, Mr. Kinsey has worked as a team leader and shift leader
in a variety of long term care settings. He has an Associates of Applied
Science in Human Services and a Certificate in Gerontology, and is also
an instructor of Nurse Assistant Training Programs approved by the Pennsylvania
Department of Education. Mr. Kinsey is currently pursuing his Bachelor
of Science degree at Albright College in Applied Psychology, Organizational
Behavior.
Susan Kump — is the Institute’s
Technical Support Manager, and in that role is responsible for computing
capabilities, web design, curriculum content editing and print- and computer-based
continuing education product layout and design. Her writing skills and
technical experience contribute to the quality and refinement of the
Institute’s traditional and distance learning products. Previously,
Ms. Kump served in several administrative positions including Director
of Administrative Computing for a private liberal arts college. She holds
a BA in Behavioral Science from Wilson College.
Allison Lantieri — is the Director
of Communications for the Institute. In this capacity she directs the
marketing, public relations and creative services that communicate the
Institute’s mission to the national eldercare community and its
consumers. Ms. Lantieri edits the Institute’s bi-annual newsletter
and all of the organization’s external communications. In addition,
she speaks nationally on a variety of eldercare topics, including organizational
leadership, long-term care marketing and Culture Change. In the last
five years she has represented the Institute at national and state association
conferences including AHCA, ACHCA, ASA/NCOA, and the Pioneer Network,
among others. Previously, she was the Director of Marketing and Communications
for Apple Health Care, Inc., a privately-held skilled nursing services
provider with 21 homes in New England. Ms. Lantieri holds a BA in Speech
Communications, a BA in Theatre and a minor concentration in Public Relations
from West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Tricia Maciejewski — joined the
Institute in 2007 as an Associate Consultant and Educator. In her role
she serves as the instructor for a pre-LPN course offered by the Pennsylvanian’s
United for Quality Care program. The students in the course are learning
communication, team building, and leadership skills and most importantly,
they are working towards proficiency in math, science and reading so
as to be better prepared for the entrance exam for LPN or RN school.
Ms. Maciejewski also assists the team in meeting various leadership training
needs of long term care communities throughout the region. She began
her career as a childcare administrator before serving as Human Resources
Manager and Vice President of Operations for her family’s business.
She holds a BS in Elementary Education with a Minor in Early Childhood
Education and an MS in Organizational Development and Leadership.
Teresa McCann — is a Senior Consultant
and Director of Development, a role that offers her the opportunity to
provide cultural transformation education and supportive services to
more than 60 homes in Florida. She is a committee member of the Florida
Pioneer Network Coalition and sits on the planning committee of the Pioneer
Network. Ms. McCann has been a Registered Nurse for more than 20 years
and began her career in acute care as a critical care and emergency room
nurse. She has served as Director of Nursing and Regional Nurse in long
term care and an administrator and Regional Director in Home Health Care.
Prior to joining the Institute, Ms. McCann served as Project Manager
for a pilot program involving 33 Florida homes with an educational emphasis
in four quality areas with outcomes evaluated by FDOH and FL State University.
Victoria Ringel — joined the
Institute team as an Associate Consultant/Educator in the fall of 2006.
Ms. Ringel brings an extensive background in long term care nursing administration
to her work with the Institute. Past positions have included Director
of Nursing, Risk Management Investigator, Director of Quality Assurance,
Unit Manager and RN Supervisor. Her main focus will be assisting the
team’s efforts in Pennsylvania, including consulting in the areas
of Culture Change and how social transformation can be achieved in direct
support of CMS’ 8th Scope of Work. Ms. Ringel holds an MS from
Adelphi University and a BSRN from Molloy College.
Annette Sanders — joined the Institute
in 1997, and since that time has held positions of progressive responsibility
from Director of Caregiver Programs to her current role as President.
She was appointed President of the Institute in December 2004. Ms. Sanders
is a Registered Nurse with more than 20 years of experience in long term
care and emergency and critical care nursing, during which time she held
numerous clinical, supervisory and educator roles. She has developed,
implemented and coordinated many Institute programs as well as managing
multiple Institute grants. Ms Sanders serves on the board of directors
of the Pennsylvania Culture Change Coalition and is a member of the Pennsylvania
Workforce WIB Taskforce.
Rhea Schneiders — joined the Institute in the fall of 2007 as
an Associate Consultant and Educator. Rhea assists our long term care
clients in implementing the best practices that will transform their
community from a traditional medical model to a social model of care.
Rhea is a practical nurse who brings twenty-one years of long term care
experience to the Institute. Previously Rhea was a Restorative Director,
and assisted in stabilizing homes that had negative survey outcomes.
She has also been active as an Administrator and a Culture Change consultant,
specifically for the Armed Forces Retirement Homes. Rhea volunteers regularly
to run a support group for a branch of the Alzheimer’s Association
in her area. In addition, she has held a position as a Social Services
Director, bringing a new level of expertise to the Institute team.
Lisa Stiltner — is the Institute’s
Office Manager. In her role, Ms. Stiltner performs a wide range of administrative
and office support duties. Her most recent undertaking has been the oversight
of the organization’s daily accounting needs. She also assists
in making travel arrangements and maintains a master calendar for the
Institute’s busy team. Ms. Stiltner is often the first staff member
to answer the phone, and callers are sure to be greeted by her ever-friendly
voice.
